Alberta -- Lost or Found?
Driving through the lower half of Alberta, my thoughts turn to the current political climate engulfed throughout this western province. Interesting that during all of the conversations I had with people here, not one of them believed the answer was denial of one Nation. People are tired. People are scared. People just want to belong, and to feel safe. These are the resounding thoughts from all I have encountered here.
Alberta isn’t just a place on the map — it’s a piece of my Canada, stitched into every mile. Where the prairies breathe and the mountains stand still — is unity felt, or chosen?
I'm old enough to remember both Quebec Referendums. Most recently, in 1995 when the outcome was just barely over half, in denial of their proclamation of sovereignty. Having been born in Quebec, I can remember how personal this felt at the time. And how my world felt close to being ruptured, it was a strange feeling for sure.
I have been fortunate to have attended the Calgary Stampede in my youth, and explored this beautiful province.
Fast forward to the present. As I entered Lethbridge to stay with an old friend, my past and the present collided into a wonderful reunion.
