The Adventure Story

 

I’m leaving soon to cross this vast country,

to discover what it truly means to be Canadian.

These are strange times, and it feels like we’ve lost some of our connections. 

And I believe ART truly has the power to heal.

So I’ll take a map, my brushes,

and follow a road that stretches farther than certainty.

I want to see the places we whisper about—

endless forests and horizons that make you feel small.

But a country isn’t only made up of landscapes.

It lives in the people and their stories.

So I’ll watch and listen while the light changes over lakes and mountains.

Maybe somewhere between the miles

and the paint on my hands

I’ll understand this place a little more.
