The BIG Tepee and the 3 little Rocks
I don't think I will ever get tired of those large Saskatchewan skies. I fear the prairies always get such a bad rap, as they don't have the majestic lakes or the towering mountain backdrops.
But I will say it to the cows come home... every province and territory has its own unique beauty. Saskatchewan is so much more than just prairie fields and big skies, just as Ontario is so much more that just Toronto. It always amazes me how such large masses of land can be pigeonholed to one specific geographic trait or place.
Driving into Alberta, Saskatchewan slowly eases off as the Rose Country takes hold. My first main stop was Medicine Hat, and the BIG Teepee.
Maybe it was the geographical expanse of this formidable structure, but this Saamis Tepee had definite presence. I ended up staying here for some time reflecting in this space. Just off to the side of the structure, I came upon these three rocks.
I often get asked what makes me choose what I paint.
Sometimes it’s the colors, the movement, the angles—or the way certain tones just seem to belong together. And sometimes, it’s simpler than that… something just catches my eye and makes me smile.
These three little rocks were resting quietly beside the towering teepee. They felt intentional. Like they had a story.
I found myself wondering who placed them there—who chose these exact stones and set them so carefully on that larger rock.
Was it a quiet moment of reflection?
An offering?
Was someone praying to the rock gods?
A conversation with something unseen?
Whatever it was… it spoke to me.
