Jasper - NOW and Then

Driving through the Canadian Rockies, these quiet giants in the background of part of my trip have reminded me of a time past. A lifetime ago, but one that helped shaped the person I am now. This trip has had so many layers for me, it has been a walk down memory lane, a glimpse into our collective future, and an artistic moment gathering for paintings to be.

Jasper has changed, and not just because of the devastating fire in 2024.  It has grown -- yet still maintains that same touristy in your face feeling.  Jasper just has this presence. A take me as I am, in all my glory kind of presence.  Mountains, turquoise lakes, wildlife, glaciers, forests, rivers, and in your face endless wilderness.  A place of breathtaking landscapes, wild adventure, quiet moments, and that feeling of being completely surrounded by nature.

The gorgeous glacial lakes, the snow capped peaks that have been here long before me — and will be here long after. That perspective changes things.  Some places don’t just take your breath away, they give it back differently.

And cue the Mountain Sheep which were always in the exact same spot -- every single time I travelled though Jasper.  It appears that this still hasn't changed.  And I must admit, I wouldn't have it any other way!

So much beauty.  In the land, in nature and all that roam it.  How could this not inspire a painting or two, or twenty...
